| ABOUT US |
| Bahrain's higher education landscape received a major boost with the opening of AMA International University's Bahrain branch in September 2002. AMA's credentials as a top notch educational institution specialising in information technology and technical studies has long been established and it is now considered one of the largest information and communications technology (ICT) universities in Asia. With more than 150,000 students spread over 200 campuses around the world, AMA promises to give the same superior quality education to its students in Bahrain as it does to students in other parts of the world where AMA has a presence. Founded in 1980 in the Philippines by prominent educator Dr Amable R. Aguiluz V, AMA’s network of computer centres are located in Bangladesh, Guam, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Pakistan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. AMA’s ISO 9001 certification ensures that each of the centres abide by globally recognised standards for world-class universities. AMA has designed its curriculum for Bahrain with an eye on providing the Kingdom with highly skilled I.T. graduates that are able to meet the ever increasing demands of the job market. Currently, AMA International University Bahrain offers four bachelors degree and two masters programmes in Computer Science, International Studies, Business Informatics and Engineering. In the field of engineering, AMA introduced Mechatronics as a full degree course alongside other new Engineering courses like Engineering Informatics, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics Engineering and Management. Each of these courses were benchmarked from the curricula of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Nan Yang Polytechnic of Singapore. AMA’s Mechatronics Engineering course will cut across traditional disciplinary boundaries and fulfill the rising needs of the local, regional and global market of new powerful, high-computing tools in designing and building of new products and processes. Applied Mechatronics, once developed and utilised, will definitely enhance effective technology to improve product performance, adaptability and flexibility. Mechatronics is introduced in AMA curriculum as the synergistic integration of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Computer Science. This is the new kind of engineering approach designed for the synergistic interaction of precision Mechanical Engineering, electronic control, and systems thinking in the design of the products and manufacturing processes. While Mechanics and Electronics are of related discipline, Computer Science is getting more and more involved because highly integrated digital electronics offers sufficient power to implement complex software for control algorithms, man-machine interfaces, or signal processing (procedures) for integrated circuits. Mechatronics Engineering graduates are most likely to take the path of a Technical Officer, production or Maintenance Officer, Production Engineer, or a Design Engineer as a career in the automation, aviation, semi-con manufacturing, and related industries. AMA International University of Bahrain Chairman, Dr Amable R. Aguiluz V said, “AMA Mechatronics students are sure to secure a passport to a good future as the use of computers, information technology and electronics for the control of machines used in the production of different products is fast increasing. AMA’s expertise in ICT will enable students to be exposed to balance concepts and practices of the three components of Mechatronics, but more so Computer Science, as this will be imperative to their professional practice later on.” |
