With the aim to be one of the
catalysts in
the global drive for Bahrain’s environmental sustainability,
AMA International University-Bahrain
(AMAIUB), through its Community
Engagement Office (CEO), spearheaded
a
beach clean up
activity on
April 20, 2012 at Balaj Al-Jazaier Beach, Zallaq Village from
eight to ten o’clock in the morning.
Dubbed as “Team
Up to Clean Up”, the activity was participated in by
the officials of the University ,
CEO Head Ms. Farkhanda
Al Bukhari,
CEO coordinators, volunteers
from the non-teaching employees, Center for General
Education (COE), College of Computer Studies (CCS), College of
Engineering (COE), the
College
of
Administrative
and Financial Sciences (CAFS), and the College of Medicine (COM)
and officers of the Student Marshalls.
The AMAIUB volunteers were provided with cleaning
equipment, gloves,
and garbage bags by the company which manages the
Al-Jazaier
Beach
, located in the Southern Municipality of the kingdom.
With the collaborative efforts
of the University volunteers, piles of debris and biodegradable and non-biodegradable
garbage which had been swept ashore by the sea had been
collected along the coastal areas.
This noble environmental endeavor also aims to maximize public
participation in contributing to solve the problem of water and
land pollution and at the same time, enhance
public awareness and appreciation of
Bahrain
’s coastal
environment.
