COE visits Hidd Power Company

By Dr. Lalitha Manohar

Among the values that the AMAIUB College of Engineering subscribes to are growth, integrity, flexibility, and fulfillment— which have a firm advocate in Hidd Power Company (HPC). With this in mind, a number of Mechatronics Engineering students and their professors visited the HPC on 1st March 2012. The group was treated to a lecture-presentation on the company’s commitment to fundamental elements of daily life (such as water and electricity), and to a lecture-tour--with HPC’s Head of Press Relations-- of the company’s facilities and operations. He and HPC’s Head Safety Engineer took turns in answering the students’ queries about Bahrain’s water and electricity consumption.

HPC, a progressive company that provides Bahrain quality water and power round the clock, is a major contributor to the economic growth of the Kingdom. Brand driven, HPC consistently meets the increasing power and water demands of the Kingdom of Bahrain: it currently provides almost 35% of the power, and 75% of the total water, consumption in the country.

Privileged to have the support of three major international companies—the International Power, Sumitomo Corporation, and GDF SUEZ-- HPC can produce 90 million imperial gallons daily of potable water. This quantity is enough to fill 164 Olympic size swimming pools or 400 million water bottles. The water meets the quality standards laid down by the World Health Organization.

Taking pride in operating the most technologically advanced laboratory setup across the GCC, HPC not only supplies 75% of the water required for Bahrain; it also performs almost 68 tests to ensure the highest level of water quality. Moreover, HPC educates the market by spreading the message of sustainability; it thus delivers to its clientele the importance of responsible water conservation.
